Things to do in Grindelwald
Grindelwald sits directly under the Eiger's north face, 35 minutes from Interlaken Ost by train and roughly 20 minutes by car via the Grund road. The Grindelwald Terminal, opened in 2020, is now the main gateway to the Jungfraujoch (3,454 m) via the Eiger Express gondola, a 15-minute ride that replaced a much longer train approach through Kleine Scheidegg.
The village itself splits into two: Grindelwald proper, with hotels and the church spire against the Eiger backdrop, and Grindelwald Grund, the lower rail junction and terminal area a 10-minute walk or short bus ride below. The Glacier Gorge (Gletscherschlucht) charges around CHF 12 for a walkway through limestone cut by meltwater, open roughly May to October.
Bort and Pfingstegg both run gondolas for shorter, cheaper outings when cloud hides the summits.
