Things to do at Lake Thun

Lake Thun starts at Interlaken West and runs 25 minutes by train to Thun, or about an hour by paddle steamer, one of several historic wheel boats still working the route in summer. Boats stop below Oberhofen and Spiez castles, both visible from the water without a detour on land.

A Lake Thun day pass covers unlimited boat travel and costs roughly CHF 48 second class; combine it with the train for a one-way boat, one-way rail loop. Swimming is genuinely possible in July and August, when the water warms enough for a proper dip rather than a quick shock, with public lidos at Thun, Spiez and Faulensee.

The left bank (Interlaken to Spiez) is built up and better served by train; the right bank (Sundlauenen to Merligen) is quieter, hillier and slower to reach without a car.
