20 one way. That single fact shapes the place. After 18:00, when the day trippers from Interlaken have gone back down, the village empties out and the only sounds are cowbells and the funicular. 4 km, cuts straight past the station.

From the village, marked trails run up to Wengernalp (roughly 1 hour 15 on foot, or 19 minutes by train) and across to Männlichen (about 2 hours), both with the Jungfrau, Mönch and Eiger lined up ahead rather than off to one side. Sleeping at 1,274 m also means cooler nights than Interlaken all summer.
